Charlag @charlag

I was trying to find some info on my ancient gear shifters and it seems like they're "downtube shifters" or similar kind.
bicycles.stackexchange.com/que

People make videos on how they use them. Seems interesting but I also imagine how fun it is to repair them.

@charlag they're so nice to repair! They're so much less fiddly than indexed ones that have all this _stuff_ to make it line up right.

@aredridel I agree, they're simple but finding components may be tricky

@charlag I’ve got those on my street bike. They took a little getting used to, but I’ve got the hang of them now.

@SobaFett my rear ones are switching between the smallest and biggest ones only now I think so I should look into that. They have some regulator on the side I believe...
I am such a noob at this, jeez.
I am not using gears too much, two would be enough for me, could as well buy a fixie lol

@charlag they can be finicky. They work on friction, unlike newer shifters, which shift every time you click them. I like the newer kind better, but I really like the frame of that bike for casual riding.

@SobaFett I need to improve some bike repair skills.
I am mostly worried about rear brakes still and that chain may fall off again. Otherwise I bike like 10 min a day now so It's not such a problem
